Interesting point about uni, from my said group none of us went.

By all means with I had found my better half sooner we would be further along, it is correct those who do own are the ones who have been in the longer relationships.

I suppose with me we have come this far so to stick with it a little longer for the better endgame makes sense, I want to move out but would end shooting myself in the foot if I did.

By all means to be a 28 year old male living with parents is very different now than it was in the 70's, in many respects in the most intelligent thing to do these days.

I would have been properly !!!!ed off if I was still at home when I was 28 (i've just turned 30). Each to their own though.

I mean renting with children. A letting agent will not usually accept that children can share, regardless of their age.

That means one bed flats are out of the question for a single woman who is pregnant. She has to find the money for two bedrooms somehow

A working couple with two pre-school aged kids in London will need to rent a three bedroom house. Thats a whopping amount of money to find every month.

A cramped 3 bed mid terrace in Woolwich, one of the the worst places in the world, costs in excess of £1000 a month. Also, check out how many nice family homes on Rightmove have the words "no children, pets or dss" under them.

I dont approve of people going on benefits when they could work but you can see why people decide it simply isnt worth it if they have to factor in housing costs and perilous 6 month ASTs.

A working couple with two pre school kids would only get LHA for a 2 bed house.

    Percy's got some brass neck.

Moaning about how jammy the previous generation was whilst living at his parents rent free and getting his snap box made for him.

I don't feel to bad about it, yes I want out but not bad enough to ruin my current chances of buying a house, say said I will be buying soon enough, striaght to a 3 bed semi minimum I will add.

I live rent free? first I heard.

My point it many of us have to live at home longer as we aren't as 'jammy' as those before us.

I don't mean this to be harsh, but there might be a pattern of a group of people who have been to uni not living with their parents afterwards and people who haven't been to uni continuing to live with their parents until their late twenties. Probably cultural and financial reasons.

I don't really understand the comment in bold? You have to assume that most people don't want to live with their parents much in to their twenties. But I realise for some people it's the only choice. Most people have a choice around when it's best to move out: some, maybe like yourself, choose to live at home until late twenties and can therefore save a high amount each month (presumably £1,000 plus?) and build up a massive deposit. I'm sure you've said on here before that you hope to be able to buy outright soon? My choice was to move out, rent for three years from the age of 21 and save the deposit for my first place whilst still having my own rented place to live in. I wouldn't say either choice is more intelligent than the other, it's just whatever you prefer to do.

As I said earlier, I got on with my parents very well and always have done, but after three years living away at University I just couldn't face moving back in with them. Living independently was more important to me than whether I bought or rented a house. Fully see why others do live at home though, it just wasn't for me (and isn't for a lot of people).

As good as rent free I bet?

You don't have to live at home longer. You are fussier about your requirements that the previous generation.

You've been telling us that you're only 28 and you have a substatial deposit to buy a 3-bed semi-detached house as your first property. I think you need some perspective on life as your route in to property ownership sounds a lot easier than my parents and is probably a lot easier than a lot of people in the past.

And there is no such thing as other generations being 'jammy'. Each generation has its own problems, opporunities and issues around a whole host of subjects, not just property.

I will admit I am paying well under what enriching a landlord would cost (my reason for still being here of course).

Now I will pose a chicken and egg arguement here:

I have to wait longer as the type of propery I want is bigger.

The type of property I want is bigger as I have had to wait longer.

In many respects we are about to leapfrog many people and skip a good few rungs of the ladder as we now have to power to.

As for saving the target is £1300 a month but this will be a little short for the next 2 months as I am investing in some business ideas which should start paying out in December.

Dare a say the whole point is that I am not still at home due to any attachment to my parents but due the fact this the best way for us to get where we want the quickest.
