dealing with creditors post BR

I went BR today...so I thought this would give me the confidence to pick up the phone to my creditors but I dont have the strength yet.
I think partly its having to say those words 'I am bankrupt'
I dont want to jump everytime the phone goes and want to be able to deal with them but cant at the moment.
What did/does everyone else do?

I too thought I would almost relish the idea but no, I don't really want to have that conversation either.
They no longer have my home number so only call on my mobile and I am always out or at work and not in a fit place to blurt out 'I am bankrupt you need to speak to my OR'. I did write to and send a copy of my order to my mortgage provider as it's part unsecured and if I had time I would do the same with the others but haven't got around to it yet, I should though as they are now threatening home visits and starting to sell on to debt collectors which I know will be harder to get off my back.
See how you feel in a couple of days. I intend to check with my OR tomorrow if they've informed any of them and how long it will be until they do (I know they are overworked) if it is a while off I may just write to them myself.
BTW saying it gets a little easier, the first time I did it was with my home insurance, then the Co-op and my mortgage provider - I've taken the attitude of yes I am a person who has gone bankrupt rather than 'a bankrupt' the person on the other end of the phone doesn't know my circumstances and has no right to judge.0 -
From the creditors I have told I have not received any further calls, but there are a couple that are persistent and are really starting to p me off.
They have it on there system that I am br, they have the or's number and yet they still call me asking for payment.
Today I lost it and just told them exactly what I thought of them and just hung up.
I have my interview tomorrow so I will hopefully find out if the or has informed any of my creditors.BSC Member 3510 -
I wonder at what point this becomes harassment. I mean you could send a copy of the bankruptcy to every company but why should you even part with the cost of the stamp? Being in the debt recovery industry presumably they can check this info and arguable should do so before chancing their arm sending out letters in hope of receiving payment for debts which may or may not be due (I doubt they even check any of the info given...).Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0

to be fair when i went bankrupt after all the grief i had been getting i could not wait for the phone to ring as i knew i just had to tell em i was bankrupt quote me reference and there was nothing they could do about it.
it amazing how there tone of voice changes after you have let them run of there spiel about owing money wanting payments and what are you going to do about it etc.0 -
Oh I thought I would do it tonight - pick up the phone that is but wasnt convenient and am tired so bottled it. Just dont know whether to keep letting them ring or grow a set and pick up????0

You could write a 'script' and keep it next to the phone. That may give you the confidence to pick up the phone, read it out and hang up?
Depends how many calls you are getting a day and how much it's stressing you out I guess. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

My OR told me that once he had done the interview then he would inform my creditors - I think they do the bank accounts immediately, which also stopped on of my CC's, as it was with the same bank. He said he had up to x number of weeks (was it 8?? someone correct me) in which to do it, but that he always acted as quickly as he could (nice man!). Within a week or so of the interview, the phone stopped ringing.
It is such a heavenly feeling picking up a Caller ID Withheld call or an 0800, and not feeling your heart rate pick up.
They cant do anything to you now.
I turned my ringer off until the calls stopped, as I found the actual physical sound of the phone ringing stressful.
Good luck x'Don't judge me 'till you have walked a mile in my shoes'0
