Engagement Rings

  • Congratulations!!

I got mine in Gardiners in March, They were very helpfull and 30-40% cheaper than similar rings I have seen in other places.

Great selection and if you see a ring you like but want it in a different metal, smaller stone etc then its no problem

Just ring the bell and go on in when buzzed - though do note you have to close the outer door properly before you can open the inner door to go inside. We sort of messed this up and were stuck in the poarch with all the staff trying to explain through the door!!!

Good thing is you can pop across the road into the mercant for a wee celebratory drink when you are waiting for your ring to be re-sized :)

Only issue may be I dont think they open on saturdays but its worth going down on friday after noon for the monye you will save!

Reas good, i agree. Got both mine there
  • Gardiners were open on a Saturday for a while but I'm not sure if they abandoned this idea or not??

As for resizing - it really depends on how much the ring is being re-sized. Mine had to be resized 5 sizes - this took a week. I did go in on a Friday afternnon and left when they were closing so they were only able to send it away on Monday but I got it back on Friday and was really happy with the workmanship :):)

My ring had to be insured for 50% more than what I purchased the ring for.

We looked in Lunns beforehand and there was no way I could have afforded anything this lovely. I am just glad that a friend recommended Gardiners.

    Happy ring shopping :):)

Joseph Rea were doing 50% off when we got my engagement ring about 6 weeks ago... the full prices were a little inflated imho but the 50% off prices were really good!!! Mine is also valued at, and insured for, 2x what OH paid for it. They also gave him a discount (he wouldn't tell me how much but I am proud of him for haggling!!!).

Go to Malcolms for the experience lol! Also, do try Thomas, they are very reasonable. Just try on as many as you want really. :)

Happy shopping and tell us how you get on!

  • Thanks all,

Already had a wee trip to Lunns, but really that was just for the experience as we don't want to pay their prices. Might Try Malcolms too just for the experience - although I'm scared of falling in love with an expensive ring in one of the expensive shops!

I have checked and Gardiners is open to 3pm on Saturday, so thats our first port of call, and if we don't find anythign Joseph Rea's it is - anyone know if they still have a sale?
  • I would check Reas before you decide... always horrible finding a bargain after the fact. I think the 50% off thing is pretty much always on.

I was scared of this too, although don't worry - the prices will put you off when you consider that a dearer ring will mean less money for a house deposit etc !! :rotfl:

Definitely go to Malcolms and enjoy being fussed over xx

    Really? Didn't realise that lol!

Try both Joseph Rea shops, OP - although the Ann Street one seems to have a bigger selection xx

Just for illustration, we went to:

    Lunns
    Joseph Rea
    Malcolms
    Steensons
    Thomas
    Beaverbrooks (urgh)
    Ernest Jones
    Gardiners
    Murray & Co (another wholesaler)

    I am very picky! LOL.

  • Just thought I'd update you all.

We picked a ring - I fell in love with the ring in Gardiners after trying on about 60 rings lol.

So excited - now i just have to wait for the official proposal!
