My creditor can't find me and the lender wont help me

Hello everyone!

I had a debt with Orange back in 2009 after I took out a contract and lost my job. Well, I moved out of the house I was living in and moved somewhere else so I now have no paper work for the debt.

Last week I phoned up Orange querying my debt and they told me they sold it to Capquest and told me to phone them. So I phoned Capquest, with my Orange account number, and they told me they couldn't find me. So I phoned up Orange to let them know that the account number they gave me wasn't working with Capquest and that they couldn't find me on their system. Anyway, I spoke to someone up in the billing department and they reassured me that it would work. It didn't! They done a search on my old address and everything but nothing.
I phoned Orange back up complaining that they were sending me around in circles and that they either remove default off of my credit report or they contact Capquest themselves and see if they can get any information from them. They put me on hold and the line went dead.

Orange say the debt is for £124 and I can pay it in full on the 30th of September but how? If Capquest can't find me and Orange are no longer allowed to deal with my account how do they expect me to pay off my debt?

I really wanna pay it off as my credit rating is crap! I've recently got a credit card to start building up my rating and I would really like that default changed to satisfied.

Can anyone help me? I used to work for the Citizens Advice Bureau in the debt department so I do have some idea about how it all works but sadly, I never came across this whilst I was there.

Any comments are appreciated :)

  • Have you checked your credit file?

I'm thinking that the debt should show up on there and maybe have a reference number?

Could capquest have sold the debt on? (but think they should have a record of it)

  • I've looked at my credit report, it was what jogged my memory. It doesn't state on there that its even in Capquests hands, it said but with no ref no
    "Company name:
EVERYTHINGEVERYWHERE TA ORANGE" but with no ref no :(
