Mouche’s adventures with her first mortgage (while coping with her first baby)

Hi PBR...thanks for stopping by. Hehe ...I do sound like a right moaner don't I? It wasn't anything major - perhaps I'm just being over sensitive. Basically he prioritised another friend's demands over promises he made to me - and it isn't the first time he's done it. He's also made excuses for it in the past saying that having gone through a bad breakup, he finds it helps him to be with single people rather than married people like me. He has also said in the past that he has so many friends either pregnant or with new babies that he's a bit bored by it all. He denies he said this to me but he did! But on the other hand, he dropped everything to come and take care of me for 3 days when I was really suffering with morning sickness. SO I guess I should focus on the positives. It just that the negatives have been piling up. Anyway, I have decided not to let it get me down. It isn't good for me or the baby to brood over unkind people.
Anyway, had a pretty good month for OPs. Managed £135 from the money leftover in our accounts at the end of the month. So in total have overpaid £268.90 even before our first official payment goes out this Friday. After poring over the mortgage calculator spreadsheet, I have found that by doing this I have brought forward the date when my interest payments will be less than my capital payments by 1 month. Yay! Next target, bringing forward the mortgage end date by a month - need to overpay another £165 by the end of December to achieve that. Since maternity budget starts this month, don't know how practical that will be - but I do have £550 odd coming as the council tax refund of which at least £100 will go as an OP so just have to find another £65. Perhaps Quidco will make me happy...
You're not a moaner! And MSE is a great place to let off steam! I am generally very laid back and calm in real life, but I've found my new MFW diary a great place to have a little grumble so that things don't fester in my head! As you say - not good for you or the baby! Sorry to hear about your friend - he just sounds like he doesn't think before he speaks.
Having said that, before I found out I was pregnant, I had a whinge about how I'd lost contact with my friends who'd become mums. While I was comfortable to talk about nothing but their new babies, I wasn't happy about people telling me that my life was empty or constantly asking when we were going to have children. There's a balance, isn't there? No wonder your friend denies saying anything :rotfl:It's really lovely that he spent time looking after you though - that's the bit to focus on!
Well done on the OP! And well done also on the council tax refund! I've never heard those three words put together beforeOverpay!0 -
Apart from the council tax refund, it looks like OH might get a fairly substantial income tax refund. I've been doing our tax returns and it turns out evil employer 1 deducted way too much tax while refusing to pay him SSP when he was off sick with an injury caused by their negligence. Nice employer 2 have had him on an emergency tax code so they have deducted a bit too much as well. So more cash coming hopefully! This will really help as OHs ancient laptop has finally died. We have decided to get a new desktop, especially as my laptop is not as reliable as it used to be. He is looking around the £500 mark which I think is pretty reasonable. It will leave a nice little sum over as well so hope to get an OP out of it.
Was my last day at work on Friday. It feels really strange to have a year ahead of me of not having to go to work - I've been working for 10 years now and it will take some getting used to. I think I've mentioned that things have been strained at work of late so was looking forward to my break but am feeling all sentimental about it now. They gave me a lovely card which everyone had signed - even people I didn't think knew me that well. Plus, they gave me the most adorable baby woolly and a £20 M&S gift card. And my ex boss made a really nice speech about me being invaluable which got me all choked up. Current boss was not in office fortunately - I doubt he would have been so nice as he thinks he's far too important to actually know what I do! Ah well...have been there 5 years and it's quite a small company so it does feel like family still. The people are brilliant and I will miss them - wonder how many will still be there when I get back. Everyone's frustrated and 6 people have quit in the past month or so. Anyway, my best friend at work will certainly keep in touch so I will be kept updated on the gossip!
Friday was also the day our first 'official' mortgage payment went out. The figures don't quite match those on the overpayment spreadsheet I have so am slightly disappointed. I was expecting the remaining mortgage to be about £15 less than it is. But maybe that's because the first payment contains an interest only payment for the first 10 days or so and my spreadsheet wasn't really geared up for that. Will see how it looks next month.
On other money making fronts, have also ordered a £10 Boots voucher from MySurveys and will be doing as many surveys and things as I can from India before baby is born.
Probably won't be updating here again till early December - hope all readers of my diary have a good month. Bye!Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

I gave up trying to match my payments with the incredibly sporadic updates on the online banking screens - so I opted to have it more as a guide than anything else... and it looks nice to see some of those numbers coming down from time to time!

Hi everyone. Greetings from India! I'm all settled in here being thoroughly pampered by mum though getting a bit bored as OH has gone off to spend a week with his parents. He'll be back at the end of the week but will go back to the UK shortly afterwards and I can't think how I will cope without him. Mum and dad are super but I am already missing his presence so much! Doesn't feel like we've been married nearly 6 years; I feel like a newlywed!
Anyway, hope all of you are fine? PBR how are you doing? Any news of starnac? Will be back posting on everyone's diaries soon but may not manage it tonight.
On the MSE and OP front - I've signed up to a bunch of survey sites though not all are letting me fill them in while being located in India. Am plugging away at them though. Plus our council tax refund and OHs income tax refund have come through so after leaving some for the computer and some for OH to spend, have managed a £224 OP to the mortgage - which according to the spreadsheet brings our mortgage period down by 1 month!! That's the first reduction in term I've achieved. Of course neither of those two windfalls are going to be regular so I daresay it'll be a lot harder to OP this much in the future but will give it my best shot.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

Hi Mouche :T
I can't believe you're still frugalling away when you're supposed to be taking it easy in India!! I guess MSE becomes an addiction or way of life!! It's perfectly natural that you would miss DH - especially at a time like this - your parents sound amazing though, so am sure they will look after you.
Starnac has had a little boy! And how sweet of you to ask after me! All well here - not long to go now!
Best of luck with everything and please take care of yourself!!Overpay!0 -
