Replacing fire place

Any advice please. We have just changed from Oil to Gas heating. We have knocked down existing stone fireplace, removed back boiler etc. Husband planned on fitting new fireplace with help of mate. Someone has mentioned we should have had it installed by Corgi reg tradesman, is this correct?

Absolutely 100% correct assuming you are putting in a gas fire or appliance.
  • No gas fire or appliance - want to use for occassional open fire.
  • You'll only need a GasSafe engineer (used to be called Corgi) for installation of a gas fire.

You'd be best get the chimney swept and get a professional opinion on the condition of the flue/chimney before using it for an open fire, just to be on the safe side.
