At the risk of attracting abuse from the politically correct, there a many parts of London that would not pass the "Tebbit test" (and as long as such conflicts are fought out on the games field so much the better for London).

As long ago as the 1960's one could drive through Southall and play "spot the white man".

Just the other week I was riding at the front on the top deck of a red bus in East London.
It got very crowded, but standing is not allowed on the upper deck.
I turned round and realised I was the only white person on the bus.

Fortunately up to now, London has managed to turn the second generation of most immigrants into Londoners - Sunny side up or otherwise.

The most important thing to know about London is the streets can be quite slippery at times as they are paved with gold.

It is the way of saying it. Just not the way of writing it - unless you've only learned the word from listening to TV

Not well known is that if you have a travelcard for, say, zones 1 and 2, it covers you for buses in ALL zones, even outside the zones it covers for tube and train. Get familiar with the labyrinth of different TFL fares, zones, daily price capping, etc, especially if you aren't travelling often enough to warrant buying a travel card.

My advice is to avoid going in zone 1 by rail etc if you can, use the bus as it is included in a travel card regardless of zone. The cost of a 1-4 ticket is almost double that of a 2-4 zone ticket.

    I am very confused.

I thought I was being clever by paying for an annual travelcard for zones 1 to 3, as this covers my weekday commute plus any travel I make at the weekend and saves me a lot compared to PAYG.

I never get the bus, because an annual pass for that is another £712 and I think I've given TfL a lot of money already.

Are you saying I can get the bus for free and have been missing out? Or does this just apply to weekly travelcards?

What it effectively means is: say you have zone 1-2 travelcard

You get on a bus in zeon 2 that goes into zone 4: you dont need to pay a zone extension.

IMO full travelcard is a lot cheaper than PAYG: I have been using PAYG as I was only using it for say 3 days a week yet I seem to spend the same if ot more than a weekly travelcard and thats with walking where I can etc.

I am going back to monthly travelcard asap as it deffo works out cheaper for me: means I dont think twice about going on tube etc for the weekend whether its worth the £6.0dd return to pop into town for something or just for a walk/gallery etc on the weekend.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

There are so many things you can do like sit it on lectures, visit museums and galleries, go on free guided walks. There is a great website called What's Free in London with hundreds of free things to do in London
