Chase up application?

Hi,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am pretty new to this job seeking thing.

I applied for a job as a support worker on the 7th Sept. I had to post the application form so sent it 1st class, so the absolute earliest they would have received it was on the 8th (its possible I missed the last post though).

Anyway, the job is just in a residential home, looks like it would be quite a small place. The position is just an on going vacancy so there's no deadlines for the application to be in etc, so I am assuming they haven't received loads at the same time as mine.

I really, really want this job and it seems like they take on pretty much anyone (says no experience is needed and you can work any amount of hours at any time and they take on students, retired people, people looking to return back to work etc).

I was kinda hoping to have heard back from them by now because I thought that they would be pretty keen to grab anyone that applies and I thought being a small place they probably don't have 100s of applications to go through...but on the other hand, they have only had my application for about a week. As I had to post the application form it is possible that it got lost in the post, that's probably unlikely, but could happen.

So my question is should I phone them to chase it up? I don't want to appear pushy but I am pretty desperate for a job and this one sounds ideal for me- like I said, I really, really want this job. Or should I leave it a while and then phone them, if so, how long should I leave it for?

TIA

  • You could always just ring up to confirm that they have received your application? Shows that you are keen and may prompt them to look at it (especially if they are not recruiting for a specific post and don't have a stack of them to read). But it may just be a simple thing like the manager has been on holiday etc.
  • That's a great idea and it might give them an opportunity to ask you some questions over the phone and for you to show how keen you are!
  • oooh, that is a good idea :) I think I'll give them a ring this afternoon- I want to do a bit of research just in case they ask any questions.
