Hope you can help me?
I am old style but need help with veg, if we have a roast etc we always seem to have it with mash, roasts pots and carrots and brocoli.
Not sure why as we all like most veg, but when I go shopping carrots and broccoli always seem to be cheapest veg and easy/quick to cook.
Any ideas what else we could have instead?

Markets often have good deals. Roasted sweet potato is very nice, as is roasted courgette, onion and peppers.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Remove stems, boil in salted water for about 4-5 minutes until tender, make sure you strain them very well (the water is bitter) and add a lump of butter and salt and pepper. I got a bunch for 50p that lasted two of us three meals.
Just remember they shrink when you cook them, so use more than you think.
I think the same works for cabbage.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
that's the best thing about growing your own; you have whatever veg was harvested that day/week. Currently I have potatoes, tomatoes, yellow beans, 2 aubreys, onions, peppers, courgettes, 2 squashes, 2 swedes, a white cabbage, carrots and a hooge bootroot for meals this week.
So for tonight's roasty we will have:roast potatoes, roast carrot, roast squash/courgette [in olive oil with cumin and chilli], and steamed yellow beans, plus a mini stir fry of onions with shredded cabbage and carrots, glazed near the end with blackcurrant vinegar. Yummy. Out of that lot; it's only the cumin I didn't grow.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

I love roasted beetroot too but is there any way of peeling it so that it doesn't stain you pink?!!! I hardly ever cook them as I hate the mess0
