With the help and advise I have read on this site over the past year I am almost completely CC debt free. I offered all the debt collection companies approx half of what I owed in full and final settlement and all accepted:j BUT.....I had negoiated full and final settlement with Westcott and they agreed over the phone, they were very keen for me to pay the debt there and then but I insisted that they first send me their acceptance in writing. While waiting for this letter to arrive I got a letter from DLC demanding payment for a very similar sum, as it was mid week and I just didnt get round to looking to see what this DLC letter referred to, the letter from Westcott arrived and the payment was made in full and final settlement. It turns out that DLC are also chasing this same debt (originally a barclays OD). I have spoken to them on the phone and told them that the sum has been paid to westcott in full and final settlement, they are having none of it and say it is up to me to prove that I have paid. I have told them to contact westcott and/or barclays but they refuse and insist that I must provide proof. Do I have to do this?? After 6 years of being terrified every time someone knocked at my front door or the phone went i just want them to bog off but at the same time i cant see why the onus should be on me to prove to them that they bought a debt which was already in the process of being settled

I think most people fainted when they saw your 'post count', and were unable to type!
I would be inclined to let them chase their own tails for it, after 6 years, you should know the routine by now surely?
For peace of mind contact Wescott and tell them the situation. If you've paid, you've paid.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
whats happened to your post count?
to the point this happened to me i contacted westcot and asked them to send a letter of satisfaction i then forwarded it to the other company
it may be worth speaqking to barclays to as they will be the one who have passed the debt incorrectly:beer: :j OFFICIAL DFW NERD NO 159 PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH OUR DEBTS:beer: :j
If you do a job well, people won't be sure you've done anything at all
Must claim back bank charges!!!:rolleyes:0 -

I have just seen my post count myself :rotfl: technical hitch somewhere i think:D
I know the drill as far as debt collecting companies chasing money I do/did owe, I have just not had experience of debt collectors being rude and threatening about money i have already paid.
I have asked Westcott for a letter stating I have paid they said they would send one, nothing arrived then when i chased them they said I had to send a SAE, just havent got round to it yet.
Thanks for the replies, this is the best site ever for help and I would not be in the position I am now without it. :T
