What does 'grill' mean?

I would very much like to get a 'grill' which could do for me e.g. a cheese topping on various dishes or brown other things like omelettes.

All the 'grills' I seem to turn up in ebay or electrical store searches seem to be of the 'George Foreman' type which, unless I'm mistaken, are actually barbecue type devices which rely on contact with hot metal.

Am I wrong about this or could one of these things do what I'm looking for? I have no experience of them.

a framework of metal bars used as a partition or a grate; "he cooked hamburgers on the grill"

But my mums cooker has a grill feature where we used to cook toast and the flames come from above.

A gold/diamond plate that is molded for your teeth. It is decorated with diamonds and/or gold.

Usually worn by rappers: Nelly, Paul Wall, Mike Jones and many others.

Verb: to quiz or question someone
  • Im sure you can still buy the kind of grill you are talking about

    I will have a look
  • How about getting a microwave and grill combined? That would do the job nicely

Yes, I've seen those advertised. The problem is: I don't need the microwave!
  • LOL, good point.

For a small grill on its own how about a camping/caravanning store. Those little grill and one ring doodahs are quite good, although it will need to be fed with camping gas(butane).

I'm sure there are electric equivalents available though.

All advice given by thekid is in good faith but remember these important facts:
    1. I'm lucky enough to live in Scotland(Scots Law may apply)...
    2. My motto is "What's the worst that can happen" you've seen the kids in the Comic Relief clips, is it to that scale? Then get a grip!
    3. It's only money...no really(see #2)
    4. I'm only a plumber...
