My Sony MEX BT 3900U has a blue socket described as `remote in` in the installation instructions. There is a note to say simply a separate adaptor may be required.
Anyone know what this is for please?

It's for interfacing to the remote control switches which some cars have ready mounted in the steering wheel.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Its the socket for the "rotary commander". Sony part no RM-X4S. Other Sony wired remotes also work when connected such as the RM-X11M, which is the one I have in my vans dashboard, its meant to go in a boat
You can also connect your original steering wheel controls to it by using an adapter specific to your car.
Here are the items that fit your socket. This first fits near your wiper and indicator stalks.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
