Anyone used the merkur razor before?

I heard great things about this double edged razor but I have never used a tradition razor before. This is like £30 to buy which seems expensive but the blades are incredibly cheap to replace (10 for £6 or there are good alternatives 100 for £10...) so in the long run, much much cheaper and Im sick of paying stupid prices for gillette blades..
I wonder if you can use stuff like shaving oils/serums that you use with normal gillette shaving? Probably not right, have to do that lathering up stuff instead?

Before you go to that expense - try a Wilkinsonsword Safety Razor

Thats all that was about when I was a lass pinching me dads razor to do my legs before PE lol
I used soap ( in the bath), me dad used shaving foam.
You don't have to buy anything you havent already got although the bar and brush lather method is good as it cleans your face and pores as well as softening the bristles before shaving
You just need to go slow as you will cut yourself as there are no wires over the blade. I remember skinning an ankle one morning rushing - hurt like hell and bled forever
The blades do actually last longer as you can loosen them to really clean them unlike modern blades
Give it a try - for a fiver you cant really go wrong0 -
thanks alot.
would these blades work with that?

I don't know how compatible they are but they work with the merkur. They should do right, it is a double edged razor..0 -

Any double edge (DE) blades will fit, but the Feathers have a reputation for being extremely sharp so they may not be so appropriate for a beginner.
I would try the Wilkinson razor with the blades included in the pack - it's available in larger branches of Boots as well as online. It has a big plastic head which doesn't expose the blade edge too much so there is less risk of nicking your skin. Boots also have their own branded version for under £4 although I haven't tried that myself.
The big advantage of DE shaving is that you are not limited to Wilkinson Sword for blades, and you can try others to find one that suits you best. I find Personnas give a good shave, cost about £2 for 10, and are readily available in Morrisons, Asda, Wilkinsons... Tesco sell them too but as their own brand.0
