Processing charges for using debit cards

Diamond Resorts International has sent the following notice to its UK members:
"We have recently been notified by our credit card payment processor that the administration charge they currently apply to all credit card transactions of 2.5% is to increase to 3% of the transaction value. Furthermore they have also advised that they also intend to charge us for all card transactions, including the use of all debit cards. It is important to note that this is a charge that is passed on directly from the processer to DRI / the customer and there is no profit made from this fee by Diamond.
We therefore regret to advise that with effect from 1 October 2011 all UK credit and debit card transactions, where the cardholder is not present, will be subject to a charge of 3% of the value of the transaction. This will include payments to maintenance fees and member benefits processing fees."
The price hike is bad enough, but to apply it to debit cards as well as credit cards is nothing short of scandalous. I shall make future payments by cheque, until the Banks succeed in their attempts to kill these off, but then I'm faced with this unjust transaction tax. Any ideas as to how to circumvent/prevent this scandalous charge? :mad:
