Hi, I have a tin of lentils in my cupboard and have no idea what to do with them-any suggestions? Ta.
Helen. Single mum to DD(7) and 2 siamese cats. Trying to decrease my debt and spending and increase my savings and lose weight-30lbs so far!

Green lentils? I normally do a soup with them but with tinned lentils I would do a salad. I haven't tried this recipe but seems yummy. ( bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/6177/warm-puy-lentil-cherry-tomato-and-halloumi-salad)

A veggie shepherds pie - cook some chopped up carrot and onion in veg stock, add tinned lentils and anything else like baked beans or chickpeas / frozen peas; few gravy granules to thicken it up. Put in a oven dish with mash potato on top and cook in oven for about half hour. Nice savoury dish.
I often add some tinned lentils to OH's sausage casserole to bulk it out a bit0 -

I use dried red lentils regularly for soup and bulking mince and didn't know if I could use the tinned ones thesame-now I have too much choice and might have to buy some more! lol!!!Helen. Don't forget, once you open the tin, if you don't use them all up, freeze the rest.
Put them in a plastic bag and flatten them out. Then you can just take out what you need. I do this with tinned chick peas cos lots of Algerian dishes just use them as a garnish.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Veggie lasagne (use alongside some peppers, tomato and spinach) instead of the mince.
Bulk out chicken stew.
