The GUARDIAN BOOK SWAP

The Guardian is launching its six-week autumn books season by setting 15,000 titles free in the wild this weekend.

From fiction to design, and children's books to science, the Guardian has gathered thousands of books from publishers and authors and is distributing them around the country for free. Books will be left in public places where readers are liable to chance upon them, from stations and coffee shops to galleries and museums.

The giveaway is part of the Guardian and Observer Book Swap, for which readers and writers are also being asked to give their own favourite reads away. After inserting a bookplate sticker (which will come free with the papers on Saturday and Sunday, or can be downloaded online) into the front of their book, and writing a message for the finder, readers can then leave the book somewhere it will be picked up by a new owner and upload the details of where they left it at guardian.co.uk/bookswap or on Twitter (#guardianbookswap). The bookplate sticker asks the finder to upload a picture of the book where they found it, and to read it and review it on guardian.co.uk/bookswap.

Find them at https://www.guardian.co.uk/bookswap or on Twitter at #guardianbookswap

  • Great idea for someone who only reads a book once.

Myself if it's a favourite book I revisit it many, many times and would not bear to give it away x

Same here, the books I would be prepared to give away are those I don't want to keep, I have a massive collection of books that I read over and over again but do have some that were either only worth one read or just a mistake in the first place.

I'd like some information about where the Guardian are leaving their 15,000 books, there does not seem to be any on the website. I'd be happy to swap one of theirs for one of mine :)

I don't think that the locations of the books (or indeed title & author) that have been left by the Guardian are going to be revealed .....

... not until at least someone has literally FOUND one and posted it on the website so that the map gets a BLUE BOOK icon on it (with details and with a picture of the discovery?)

If you are on the hunt to "swap one" you need to either "FIND one" of the Guardian unknown "what and where" books, OR pick up one that has been left by another individual
    ....

...WHICH you CAN FIND (and know which book) by using the MAP and the RED book icons :)

JUST NEED to get there BEFORE ANYONE ELSE :) :rotfl:

Darn! Been having a book clearout recently and put boxes of them in the charity shop - this sounds like quite a good fun thing to do.
