I need to buy 36 bottles of prosecco, 18 red wine and 18 white wine for my wedding!
Tesco seem to have many cases half price- are they genuinely half price or do you think its all just marketing? The temptation obviously is to go for a £8/9 bottle thats half price at around £5.
Dare we buy a £5 bottle thats down to £2.50?
Do wine prices tend to stay the same or perhaps after xmas do you get better offers?

Tesco did a lovely red wine that was called Fitou. I got a few bottles coming up to christmas it was £2.50 a bottle lots of people commented on how nice it was. I think it was originally priced much more than that. I think they sometimes sell it by the case online on special offer. I usually drink blossom hill, Jacob's creek it was as nice as those. In fact probably nicer. HTHwins so far: 6 mars balls. 5 mars dvds. make up. hair stuff. moisturiser. Vodkat cocktail kit. 2books. 2 peroni coasters. 3 peroni bottle openers. john smiths shirt.face mask. so diary. Sky+hd and sky world.:j Mascara0

Yes it is just marketing. As an example Tesco wine are selling Cantine Maschio Prosecco Brut 50% off for £34.14 per case. That's £5.69 per bottle. I found it impossible to do a price comparison because Tesco appear to be the only company selling a wine with that name. However Asda are selling the similarly named Canti Prosecco Heritage Brut for £7.24 or 2 for £10. So £5 per bottle.

As for half price offers in general well I've bought some pretty disgusting reds from the Co-op for £4 which were supposedly reduced from £8 and I've never seen them on the shelves at full price.
You can get reds and whites in Aldi for £3 each but I wouldn't particularly recommend them and, of course, they don't deliver. It might be worth looking at Asda's 3 for £10 offer although you need to take the prices for single bottles with a large pinch of salt.

They have Montepulciano for £5.98 per single bottle. I have never seen any other supermarket charging more than £4 for it.
Wine offers come and go so it's impossible to say when the best time to buy is. Don't forget though that if we have another Budget in the autumn then duty on alcohol may change.0 -
I posted this a few days ago, might be worth having a look. Scroll down to post #5 as well if it'll help any.
You can also currently get Tesco Finest Altos de Tamaron Ribera del Duero Tempranillo 75cl for £21.36 per case, equivalent to £3.56 per bottle at Tesco Wine.
I personally would recommend any wine from Castile-Leon which is renowned for it's wine producing. The ones that fall under the Designation of Origin Cigales are very good but can be quite expensive. White wines from Rueda and red wines from Ribera del Duero as above are also known for their quality.0 -

Well their marketing worked because we bought 6 cases tonight online.
Yesterday we bought a couple of bottles instore and had a few friends and family test it last night. With vouchers, clubcard points and topcashback it came in at £170 for 36 bottles... so really Im chuffed with that.
Now we just need 18 bottles of red and 18 of white.0 -
Tesco Wine half price cases plus codes to cut costs further. You may have already spotted this in the MoneyTips email.
There's also a fairly good offer for Your Favourite Wines and Naked Wines.0 -
People at weddings can be very, very fussy about wines. Therefore go for ones that are reliably good and will please a lot of people.
White wine:
'Italia Pinot Grigio' on offer for £5.24 from Waitrose.
Red wine:
'Cono Sur Pinot Noir' is popular at weddings (£7.11 when bought by the case from Tesco).
Wolf Blass Red Label Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon (is on offer at Tesco for only £5.69 when bought by the case).
I have not checked to see if these are the best prices or have discount codes, but I would go for these wines for a wedding on a budget that doesn't want to look as if it is on a budget.0 -
Morrisons currently have Cono Sur Pinot Noir for £5.49 a bottle reduced from £6.79. Offer is on till 25/09/2011.
Try searching Quaffers Offers for any other offers or mySupermarket Wine.
With mySupermarket Wine click on any image to see if anywhere else is selling cheaper elsewhere or click the supermarket and wine companies tabs near the top of the page.
Worth pointing out too that Tesco Wine can sometimes be cheaper than Tesco's groceries website. If you spot an offer then it might be worth going to Tesco Wine as they may have it cheaper there.0 -
Hardy's Crest Sparkling white wine is often reduced at Tesco online. It's a really nice sparkling wine and always gets compliments from others.0
