How do you and your partner split the bills?

We haven't worked out exact percentages but as OH earns more than me (quite a lot more) I pay for food twice a month, the amount council tax went up when I moved in and what works out at about half the rent. OH covers rest of the bills. We don't have joint accounts. This works for us, no arguments about money.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

IMO, the key here is what you earn together. The figure you should be focusing on is £36K, not £21K nor £15K. Take what you both earn between you every month then lay aside money for the bills, food, savings etc then split whats left. May not work for everyone but has worked for me and my wife for the last 17 years. You are partners afterall.0

My DH earns quite a bit more than me and we don't split bills 50/50. I pay for all the food shopping, extras, my mobile phone bill and my credit cards and he pays for all the other bills including the rent. I'm in charge of the budgeting so as he only really has bills coming out of his account I can keep track of what is left (he's not the best at budgeting!) It works for us and really we see our money as a joint amount anyway.DFW by end of June 2016...! LBM June 2011

I've lived with my boyfriend for 5 years and we have always split the bills 50/50.
We have an account we use as a joint and we both pay the exact same amount in to and all the bills come out of, the rest is our own to spend as we each see fit. Works for us
I'm not sure I'd be happy with either of us paying more if one of us earnt more, I mean we both use half the electric/gas/tv/phone so I think I'd feel a bit miffed if this was the case.
We both earn similar amounts, I suppose I earn a bit more but it's on commission so it varies month to monthDMP with Payplan started 01/07/11

Since we moved in together 15 years ago and since, we have a joint account that my wages go into and this pays all the bills, OH wages go into his account which I have the card/ full access to and this is used for day to day living petrol, food etc, we share everything, whats mine is mine and what his is mine:p0

We calculated the amount we needed for bills, plus extra for hols and spends etc - and pay a proportion of our wages into a separate account and all the bills and 'couple' spends come out of that. The rest is ours and we both save into our own accounts outwith the joint one.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

My Dh earns a lot more them me- my wages stay in the bank to pay all the bills. He gives me a weekly housekeeping amount which buys food and anything else we need.
He pays for holidays, nights out etc and we half for the kids expenses, if it's a big expense hubby usually pays.
i still manage to save a bit off my housekkeping money. it works for us but everyones got a different idea of how finances should be split.0 -
We have a joint account, all money is OURS not his and hers.
All debts are ours too.
(currently being tackled) You have to start to finish.

I agree -this is what we do. All our money gets paid into a joint account, joint bils, shopping etc are then budgeted for (and then transferred into other accounts) and then what's left is our's to split evenly....works for us. At least then he'd be able to see you're both getting the same but he's probably overspending20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

Our salaries go to our personal HBOS accounts (so we can get the £5 reward). We then transfer food, petrol and bills money into another, joint bank account (another £5 reward!).
Our share of bills/shopping is split proportionally to earnings. If a large expense is needed, it goes on one of the credit cards and we usually pay it off 50/50.0
