Has anyone noticed the Tesco's own long grain white rice smells funny? It's not the value rice it's the one in the blue packet.
I always rinse the rice before cooking but i've noticed a funny smell when i cook it and you can smell it when you are eating it.
Shame as i won't buy the rice again and i think it cooks without sticking together as well

Yes, I noticed exactly the same this week. I usually buy basmati, but bought this one instead, so it was really 'fresh' and only just off the shelf. Smelt really weird dry, and throughout cooking, but tasted ok. I was trying to save a few pennies, but think I'll go back to the basmati.0

Thanks, i was beginning to think it was me. It definately wasn't just one packet as i opened another pack just to check. Oh well, i shall not buy it again.0

I bought a bag of the Curry Leaf rice in Tesco today, which is usually very nice and cooks well, but this bag smelled funny when it ws cooking.0

I had this problem ages ago and took the bag back as it smelt rank and there was no way I was going to risk food poisoning all 6 of us! They refunded without problem and then I noticed that the Tesco Easy Cook rice (blue bag) was unavailable and was for ages. It has just started coming back into stores but I haven't tried it yet. How long have you had it in the cupboard? Is it from that old stock? I agree, it smells awful!0

No it wasn't old, I bought it last month. I haven't got the packet as i put it in a jar when i open it so i can't take it back either :mad:0
