Minor triumph in supermarket

Options
In Sainsbury's on Thursday, I wanted to buy the three pack of peppers that cost £1.29. There were none on the shelves, only individual peppers for 68 pence each.

So I asked an assistant if they had any packs in the back and when she said no, I asked f I could have three individual peppers for the price of the three-pack. Idon't know what came over me, must have been spending too long on here :rotfl:
Anyway, then the fresh produce manager came over and said I could have them as long as I took one of each colour. He then put them in a bag and put a "reduced" sticker on them so I got the three for £1.28 instead of the £2.04 if I had had to buy three individuals.

OK I know this isn't major news but I was very proud of myself and thought you could apply this all round the store if they don't have exactly what you want. Maybe other moneysavers could use this tip?

Good for you, if you wanted the peppers why be forced into buying something else most expencive beacsue they dont have them.

    Grocery Challenge. £400. - £35.22 + £19.80 + £109.01 = £164.03
    Other spends (Clothes Luxuries etc)£11.97 + £1.19 + £7.36 + £69.00 + £38.50 + £5.50 + £23.00 +£2.00 = £158.52:shocked::sad:

Ages ago I remember the Co-op giving you a voucher for bread or milk if the one you wanted was out if stock but haven't seen anything about this lately, don't know if they still do it.

The opposite happened to me the other day in the Co-op. There was a multibuy offer on Lurpak, against a display of standard and lower fat varieties, but there was only one left of standard so I took it and one of the lower fat ones to the checkout, and asked her to confirm that the offer applied to buying one of each.

She scanned it and said yes, then said "I'd have let you have it anyway, it's not your fault there was only one left". I couldn't see the screen display from my side of the checkout, but said thank you and thought no more about it.

Until I got home and checked my till receipt - they had both gone through at full price, with no multibuy reduction. Not worth making a fuss for 38p, but I did feel a bit conned .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Thats not my coop is it!! They are bad here for that type of thing....always check your reciept before you leave the shop.

The worst instance was once I picked up 2 packs of cheese , big read sign ot bottom of fridge unit saying buy one get one free. Got to the counter and went through at full price, I queried it and then a supervisor came and went and looked and came back with this answer ...... the promotion starts tomorrrow, but we will *let* you have it at BOGOF !!

The only thing I would say is that generally, prepacked veg/fruit is smaller than the individual loose items.

Sop in effect, you actually got more pepper for your money than you would have!

It's always worth asking. I went into Wickes the other dy to buy a shower after ours exploded. They had 2 wattages:

    8.5watt @ £79.99
    and
    9.5 watt@ £69.99

It didn't make sense to me why ther higher rated shower was cheaper so I asked and the answer I got was that the higher wattage was on offer. I explained that I couldn't have the 9.5 watt because my wiring wouldn't take it (advice from electrician) and would they be able to do the lower wattage for the cheaper price? The very nice manager came over and said yes, knocking £10 off the price of my new shower.

    How happy was I?!!
