Help please. I've suddenly had a call from OH. he's bringing 4 of our friends back for tea tonight. Decided i will make it easy and prepare it all now. Got a 650g gammon joint out of fridge and am boiling it now. Wrapper says 30mins per 500g so approx 45 mins cooking. Is this enough?
Don't worry not going to starve them ....am going to cut gammon cold and have with cheeses, prawns, pickles, salad, jacket spuds and then cheescake and basic fruit salad for dessert

We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

I find that wrappers are usually reliable for cooking timings - after all it isn't in the producers interests to have an unhappy customer, let alone a dead one.
I can't find any timings for just boiling (except in a pressure cooker), all my recipes go on to another stage - such as finishing it off in the oven. Delia Smith recommends leaving it to cool in the cooking water as this will keep it moist. That would also cook it for a bit longer but without usung fuel.0 -
well I've done it for an hour and am leaving it to cool, so hopefully it will be okayWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

A couple of spoonfuls of treacle over it and half an hour in the oven at about 160 would give it a lovely flavour!0

I always mix wholegrain mustard and honey for a glazing for my ham. DH and kids love it!0
