I haven't seen either of the deleted posts but this does sound like a good idea that MSE must be able to make work surely.

With Wii games being £30-£40 (and my son has already completed two since Christmas) there must be a way of swapping among forum members for free.

I don't know how the OP would have been making money but if we had a swop forum where it was simply that - Swap - no money to change hands at all - then I think that would be great.

I totally understand (and agree) that selling should be outlawed but swapping where no money changes hands? What are the negative implications? That somebody doesn't deliver on the swap but gains the inbound item?

If it can't work then fair enough, but it would be a great MONEY SAVING IDEA!! (which is why we are all here!)

If its the thread I'm thinking of, it was someone who had set up a website to do just that - along the lines of readitswapit I think.
Unfortunately because he posted about it himself he was told he wasn't allowed to promote his own website...
  • isnt there something similar on the avforums web site?

can you swap with them or is it only purchase trading? Head there for a ganders to clarify. a good idea tho.

The negative implications are that people wouldn't complete their swap and then who are you going to complain to. Who decides what is a worthwhile swap, what if the game you swapped for doesn't work, the problems are endless and MSE doesn't have the resources to "police" this.

Most weeks you see someone complaining about having sent out vouchers to people without so much of the courtesy of a thank you and it would be ten times worse if there was a greater monetary value to the goods.

Understand that it would have to be self-policing and caveat emptor ... maybe restricting it to forum members of a certain standing (posts or length of tenure) might minimise this risk.

While I appreciate that there will always be a small minority of undesirables in any community, over my time on this forum I have met many many wonderful members who have helped others out tremendously (especially in the early days of the Argos deals where members would actually purchase goods on behalf of other members in other parts of the country and mail them onto them).

I'd still like to think that it wouldn't be beyond us to do this.

However, will check out the other forums mentioned to see whether they have cracked it.
