They still make enough money from final value and then paypal fees if you are selling. The 2nd category also used to be free on free listing days but not now.

I will probably still list as I can't be bothered carbooting anymore.

Gosh another one!? Makes me regret ever bothering to list any other time! Will still list some bits though.

They might aswell just scrap basic listing fees altogether...

Listing fees aren't the 'problem', it's the 10% FVF and the 3.4% plus 20p parasitic paypal fees that are.
Try your local Gumtree and Cheapcycle first.

It says only valid on listings with a starting price of £1 or more for the free listing.

Also, taken this from MyeBay, so I assume they have changed how the free listing works:

Free insertion fees

Your first 100 single-quantity auction-style listings in a calendar month won’t be charged an insertion fee if:

You are a private seller
The item is listed in an eligible category
Your starting price is between £0.01 and £0.99
You are not a PowerSeller on any eBay site

If your listing is eligible for a £0.00 insertion fee, your insertion fee will appear as 'Free' in the listing form. If you're relisting an item, the relist is eligible for £0.00 insertion fees under the same guidelines as a new listing. All listings (including relisted and cancelled listings) count toward the 100 listings limit.
Only auction-style listings without reserve are eligible. All other fees, including listing upgrade fees (such as bold or listing in two categories) and final value fees, still apply. If you list items in a second category, this will be charged the standard fees for listing in a second category.
eBay Motors, Classfied ads, Property and Multiple-item Buy It Now listings have their own insertion fees.

Thanks for this - i looked yesterday and there was nothing, i have so many baby clothes to get rid of and we are moving home soon, and really dont want to lug clothes that are not gonna be worn, oh can list Bumbo and tray as well.

What really makes me angry when selling on eBay is that Paypal even take a % of the postage. So, you have to add this on to the postage to allow for there cut. I don't think they should take anything because you don't get to keep this money.
