Will Tesco replace...

Options
I got bought a lovely bottle of wine for christmas, Tesco Finest own label Chateauneuf-du-Pape

Looked forward to drinking it for ages, planned to have it last night with our lamb, I cut the foil & the cork was damp & red, with a funny smell to it.

I didn't open it for fear of it being ruined.

The question is, will Tesco replace it? I have no receipt as it was a present & it was bought in a different city by my Brother.

  • If it says Tescos on the label then I don't think you should have any problem with it - just take it in and I'm sure that they will at least replace it or let you have a credit against your shopping.

  • I once had a very stingy colleague who won a bottle of wine in a raffle in the office, but took it back to Tescos for a refund as he preferred the cash equivalent. It turned out to be about two years past its sell by date and Tescos still gave him a refund, so you should have no problem!
  • replaced without a hitch :j

  • Last time I returned a bottle (it was about £12) they told me that without a receipt they can only replace the same bottle, they can't substitute. So check that the Tesco you go to has the exact same bottle before you try it.

Presumably nothing to stop you decanting a cheap wine into an expensive bottle and bringing it back if you had a mind to  The SA hadn't heard of wine being corked so I don't think she'd have known the difference.
