  • Hi
I also had to check this, this year with my insurance company it was Flexicover direct we were covered as we had a annual worldwide policy and they said as soon as we leave the house to travel we were covered didn't matter were we left from.

Surely travel insurance doesn't just cover flights? I would always have understood a policy to cover you from when you start your journey (i.e. leaving your home) and, if you have to travel to Dublin to catch a flight, you'd be covered for the first part of your journey be it by car, bus, train, ferry etc.

I have a policy with Boots and it covers me for roadside assistance in the UK and missing my departure. If my car breaks down 2 miles from home on the way to the airport I'm covered no matter where I am flying from.

Check the small print on the policy - it'll be hidden in there somewhere!

For years I had annual world wide travel insurance with Boots until a few years ago they changed their insurers to AIG - American Insurance Group - and although they maintained they were 'independent' of the parent company in America they would not provide travel cover for going to Cuba! I now have annual travel insurance with the Automobile Assoc. at very reasonable rates. However I am going to check their small print now to see if I am covered from leaving the house! Good points raised in these posts.

Well I rang my insurer and they told me firstly it had expired :o and secondly it did cover us from the time we left home in NI no matter what airport we used.
I then rang Debenhams who told me my daughters policy only covered her when she flew from a UK airport

Thanks for all of your responses.

I got my answer today when I followed it up with a call to the online insurers I had bought the policy with.

I was not covered for a flight departing outside of the UK.

They were fine about it and cancelled the policy.

I have now rebooked with Insure and Go. I've been speaking to them on the phone and the policy they have given me covers for holidays departing UK and Ireland.

Glad I checked and definitely worth the peace of mind!

Insure and go offer cheap travel insurance but I'm afraid are very very poor at paying out. I booked with them to go to Australia for 3 weeks had a problem with my ears when away despite sending all my medical receipts they failed to pay and the customer service was absolutely pathetic I hope you don't have any cause to claim.
