Just read this on the Northern Ireland Water website:

Thought it may be useful for some folks to request one.

Thanks for taking the treouble to post this, butterfly.
No reflection on you, but I fail to see what good this tag will do - surely if I know where my water stop valve is I don't need to tag it?
I suppose maybe it would be useful for a shop or business where a lot of people work in case the boss wasn't there.0 -

You are obviously well in control then, but for those people who don't know where it is (and I would imagine there are a fair number of such out there - many houses too have more than one occupant, eg teenagers, partners, etc), it may be worthwhile requesting it.
For those who don't know where the stop valve is, hopefully it will be useful, even if only to encourage them to have to think about it (before they have an actual need for it) and find out where it is. Then maybe they too can be in control should the worst happen this winter (or at anytime, for that matter).butterfly )i(0 -
NI Water has produced a bright tag for customers to loop around the stop valve in their premises. This will ensure they are aware of the location of their stop valve and it will be easily identifiable in the event of a burst pipe.
Sorry but most stop valves are "buried" in kitchen units etc. so a tag looped around it would not be much use. Perhaps a notice in the premises would be better indicating where it is? Also if it hasn't been used in a while it will be seized up.Dave0 -
Ironic that they have Sara Venning in that Press Release, given that she was one of those responsible for the fiasco last winter...0

Indeed, and she'll need to come up with something better than coloured tags this winter!
I hope she has her order in now for Scottish bottled water.:)0 -

No need I believe she will be moving soon to pastures new,and not too far from scotland either.;)counting down the time I got left.:beer:0 -
is it possible when people had burst pipes last winter they didnt know where the stop valve was and it just made the flooding worse .The tag itself is just a gimmick but if it makes people think so much the better ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0
