Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help (are there any contact lens practitioners on here?)
I currently wear Daysoft 58 (I have a valid prescription for these from Specsavers who I use for my aftercare) but have been having some issues recently with drier eyes than I used to, leading to me not being able to wear my lenses comfortably for as long as I am used to (which I know is longer than I am supposed to, but I have done so for a long time (at least 13 years) I tend to wear from 7am until 9-10pm. but I am finding I need to remove them at 4-5pm, or 7.30 at latest. I have found the lenses seem to lookdrier than they used to IYKWIM-they don't seem as soft? Has anyone who uses Daysoft found this, or am I clutching at straws?
I was thinking I might need to start buying better/more expensive lenses-eg acuvue, or the new focus comfort ones, and am in for a contact lens check in 48 hours so was going to ask re a trial for these, but needed some more lenses last week to do me until I could do that so ordered some more 58s.
However I saw daysoft also do 72s (58 says 58% 72 72%-is that water content?) so would they be a good idea to try first? I will obviously be asking my optometrist (I'm never sure if the contact lens check up person at specsavers is an optometrist-I'm presuming they are? ) but would appreciate anyones input
Thanks for any advice

Hi,
I had exactly the same problem with the Daysoft 58's - I emailed them to ask about it and they sent me some 72's to try free of charge, they are better, although have to say I still don't find them as comfortable as the Boots own ones, which is what I was using previously (and wearing them for similar lengths of time as you).

Yes the 58% and 72% does relate to water content. I changed to these and used them for some years until my prescription changed and could no longer be covered by daily use lenses. Good luck with them, I hope they work for you. Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

Optometrist made the point (which completely makes sense when I think about it) that the higher the moisture content of the lens, the more it needs my tears to keep it moist.
She has suggested I try acuvue trueye, which sound wonderful (I was reading up before I went, and asked about the hydrogel type lenses) but will cost £40 per month
Now this actually seems pretty competitive compared to online prices (I'm presuming this is a scheme with aftercare-but would need to check) but was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the trueye lenses?0 -
Do you want to stick with dailies or do you not mind changing?
I had problems with dry eyes and tried Acuvue Oasys, which are extended wear and you change every 2 weeks. They have been fantastic!
I can usually get away with wearing them for 15+ hours (I work 14 hour shifts  ) and you can sleep in them as well.
I pay around £30/month with Donald & Aitchison (now Boots), including cleaning solutions and after care and I get Advantage Card points as well!0 -
I *think* I want to stick with dailies. I'm a vet, and sometimes get gross stuff (or not so gross- I'm good at getting hibiscrub in my eye when scrubbing up!) in my eye  I used to wear GP and got ulcers from them absorbing formaldehyde fumes in anatomy classes, so I like chucking them away each day. I trialled monthly disposables a long time ago, and had great difficulty figuring out if the lens was the right way round! I have to admit, if I'm paying more than £1 a pair, I will be MUCH more careful putting them in lol, and will have to ask whether I can take out and clean if I get something in my eye (with the daysoft, if I have another pair around I just bin them:) )0

Have you tried some wetting drops in your eyes for a few mins before insertion...?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Yeah, I have been using drops every 15mins in the late afternoon recently, as I can't cope otherwise. i have tried them before insertion too, but they don't help. The Daysoft never used to do this to me, I do feel the quality has changed, but it may just be I'm getting older:eek:

Maybe you need an eye checkup just incase there are surface issues...?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Thanks,
I just had a check up with the optometrist-who suggested the trueye lenses. I have no ulcers, but some redness. I have no tear film issues, and my eyes appear healthy, and have been fine up til now,but the daysoft lenses are no longer agreeing with me (:( which is a shame as £30 per month is a major saving)
