letters in previous occupier name

Hi we bought our house last june, and for the past 15 months have been recieving letters in the previous occupiers name, most of these letters are from loan or finance companies, where he has been trying to get credit or loans using our address.

i have phoned the companies involved and told them he no longer lives at this address.

but is there anything i can do so that when he get credit checked it comes up that he does not live at our address.

thanks
its only a bargain, if you need it or will use it.

  • I would assume make sure there are only true occupants registered on the electoral role. Also write to the credit reference agencies asking for your file to be updated.

  • We have the same issue, we have updated the electoral role, which is checked during a credit check. Addresses aren't blacklisted anymore as companies have cottoned on that people move on.
  • I print off pages of labels that say "RETURN TO SENDER - not known at this address. Please remove from your database".

Whenever mail comes in for a previous tenant I stick one over the address (if its a windowed envelope) and stick it straight back in the post. Its amazing how effective this has been at reducing the amount of incorrect mail we were getting.

I think their credit file gets updated with a gone away record if this gets back to the credit reference agencies, but I could be wrong about this.
