hi all - just thought i'd let you know that this weeks shop was my first after a week of being a newbie here on the forums. my food bill which is normally between £60 and £70 was £41! Very pleased so I made a plan and managed to fit in some reduced bits into it! this week is a thursday till thursday for me with regards to food shopping so I made a plan and managed to fit in some reduced bits into it! this week is a thursday till thursday for me with regards to food shopping
Thursday (yesterday) - Scallops reduced to £2 from asda, fried in chinese 5 spice (already in store cupboard) and sweet chilli egg fried rice (all in store cupboard apart from sweet chilli sauce - I was going to buy asda's own, but after comparing, the blue dragon in the squeezy tube actually worked out cheaper, as it was the same price for about double the amount)
Friday - were stopping at my sisters tonight
Saturday - sausage and bean pie, topped with mash and cheese garlic bread, gonna make double and freeze one.
Sunday - Pork stew made in SC, I was so happy, i found a pork joint in the reduced bit down from £6.something to 2.80!! so will also be freezing this
Monday - Tuna pasta bake all made from store cupboard ingredients, just bought an extra tin of toms and a tin of tuna (both sp!)
Tuesday - left over sausage and bean pie
Wednesday - homemade soup (carrot and sweet pot) and cheesy bread.
and I'll also have a portion of stew ready for one meal next week!
I know it sounds sad but i massively enjoyed food shopping after a week of reading these forums! it was a fun challenge, and that extra money in my pocket is fantastic! I'm still feeling like we are having really tasty meals I did buy mostly smart price or reduced, but I got a few things such as nandos peri peri sauce which I love. I also found the fact that blue dragon sauce worked out cheaper was interesting - another example of this was that I was gonna buy smart price mature cheddar cheese at £2.18 for 380g, but I noticed that the asda brand was £2 for 400g so I went for that, so I guess its always worth checking? has anyone else had experiences like this? Not that expensive
Its all waitrose whoopsies, or from the butcher/farm shop. The veal is the most expensive thing at £10 for the joint, which will do us at least 2 meals for 2 (its british, rose veal, so welfare friendly ) But everything else is probably no more than £2-4 (max) for the protein part of the meal. Poultry is always free range, and pork british & outdoor bred at a minimum. OH hits waitrose at just the right time for the fish reductions :j ) But everything else is probably no more than £2-4 (max) for the protein part of the meal. We aren't on as strict a budget as some, luckily for us, and OS has helped me ensure we can eat the scrummy yummy food we love, without compromising on taste or animal welfare, for the lowest possible price  0  0

I've been away for a bit, but I'm back and feeling more planning-y than ever. So, here's my mealplan for the coming week - starting Sat 17th:
Sat: Toad in the Hole with beans. Mr M has Cumberland sausages at 98p atm, so I'll use those and whatever's left will go into a pasta dish later in the week.
Sun: Roast Lamb, Roast Potatoes, Carrots, Broccoli... Mmm
Mon: Lamb and Mint Wraps (using leftover slices of roast lamb, some diced cooked potatoes, minty mayo and some strips of red pepper for colour)
Tues: Spanish Omelette, possibly using up some of the sausages that were left over from Sat and frozen
Weds: Not sure yet - haven't planned as might be busy
Thurs: Pasta Bolognese. If I haven't used the sausages, they'll be used here.
Fri: Chicken drumsticks with sauteed potatoes and maybe some sweetcorn cakes.
The oven will be on tomorrow for the toad, so I'll make a batch of apple muffins while it bakes and will make croutons while the oven is cooling down. They keep well in a sealed lock and lock. The oven will be full on Sunday with the roast, but there'll be a crumble to add somewhere as I've been given a couple of bags of cooking apples - yum! For the rest of the week the only day the oven is on otherwise is Friday, and I'll make a cake for the weekend. I'm getting a carrot cake vibe, so I think I'll do one of those, sans frosting, to make the most of the oven.
There's cereal for breakfast, and yoghurts for puds. I might make some Twinks too. Hopefully there won't be too many items I need on my shopping list!
 Thanks,
 KB xx
