Lying to debt collectors?

Hey all,
After years of not being at an address I have been contacted by phone (voicemail) and post by LCS debt collectors. My question is, what would the process be if i rang them up from my landline, said that the names on the letter sent to me do not live here and do not have forwarding details. Also if they asked for my identity would I have to give it to them?
The other option is to ignore the letters and calls altogether and hope they don' come knocking, is this a likely scenario? I am totally unable to pay the amount £800 +£111 legal fees(?) and the person i did share the bills with years ago is un-contactable now.
£800 seems like a ridiculous fee, on the letter it notes the bill is due for the months 08/09 to 02/10 however I'm certain we moved out in the month of 10/09.
Many thanks to anyone who can give me some past experience help!

whats the debt for... also they can trace people using experianDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Rather than tell lies, just don't speak to them on the phone.
I take it [though you don't really say this] that the alleged debt is council tax. Please confirm exactly what the alleged debt is for, because the advice will be different for council tax and ordinary debts.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
