US make up

My friend is going on holiday to the US this weekend and has offered to let me fill up his last 1kg allowance with make up
(obviously I am giving him money for this otherwise it wouldn't be
but :j lol)
Has anyone got any recomendations for make up that I should request? I hear that US drugstore make up is quite good but has anyone got reccomendations on brands that we can't get in the UK? Or any brands that we can get that are significantly cheaper in the US ( I've heard that Estee Lauder is a fair bit cheaper)
So far my list consists of: Make up forever smokey lash, Sonia Kashyuk hidden agenda concealor pallette and a beauty blender.
I usually go for brands such as MAC, Nars, Bobbi Brown but also like Collection 2000, Sleek, Barry M etc just to give you an idea.

Clinique is loads cheaper. I loved the nail varnishes in drugstores - particularly the Sally Hansen ones. Remember MAC etc will be in duty free as well.
Sephora is amazing too - have a look at their website and see if there's anything on there you want. I bought loads from there when I went to NY.0 -

Cover Girl, Sephora's own brand make up is good and IMO fairly inexpensive, NYX makeup, there is a couple of others but for the life of me I cant remember the names.

All the premium brands are much cheaper. A couple of years ago I was paying less than 1/2 price in the department stores for dior. If he goes into any chemist/supermarket hybrid shop (there are 100's) brands like maybelline are really cheap. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I would suggest he track down a Wal-Mart or Target and buy plenty of Maybelline mascaras, lip glosses, etc. I think Target have a website for you to check out beforehand.0

Sonia Kashuk brushes (found at Walmart), anything from Sephora and covergirl. I think Korean and Japanese cosmetic brands are more readily available over there, so maybe check them out too.0

High-end mascaras (e.g. Dior) are almost half the cost in the USA...Estee Lauder is a wee bit cheaper, but not significantly...there's some good savings to be had with Dior...oh, and the Lancome mineral foundation (which isn't available in the UK...or at least one particular kind - believe me, I've checked!) is *amazing*. For me it can't be beaten...I just paid $50 (inc. tax) for a very big pot, and the coverage is second to none. I have a slightly smaller pot which has so far lasted me a year and a half and is only just beginning to run out, so it's a very good investment!
If you're a Bobby Brown fan as of next wednesday they're offering a gift with purchase if you buy a foundation from them. The gift is a minature foundation brush, a foundation sample and something else...can't remember what.
I only know all of this as I am in the USA at the moment...due to fly back to UK on Sunday

Thanks everyone, I'm going to spend ages checking out all the recommendations (much to my OH's disgust :rotfl:)
Lancome, Dior ... in heaven :rotfl:. I still get goosebumps at the Chanel counter as its 'grown up' make up. Im 23 but I still feel like a lil kid at that counter.
The Lancome foundation sounds lovely but I don't know what colour I would be
. I'm hoping for a trip to the US in the next couple of years so I can hopefully check it out then.
I remember Almay from years ago - lovely stuff.
Oh I never thought of nail polish, or Sephoras own brand.
How much is too much to ask him to bring back? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
The Sally Hansen prism nail polishes are gorgeous, but you can't get them over here. If you like nail polish, Deborah Lipmann is a great brand too - even if you don't wear them you could probably make a bit of money flogging them on ebay
