I wanna: change my name (temporarily!)

Hi,

I'd like to change my name, for a month or two.
I recently bought a new UK passport and just found out it costs £66 to have it amended. I have dual-nationality, and don't have a Canadian passport, so could I buy one of them and use it for ID purposes in the meantime (well, obviously).
However, in the meantime, would my UK Passport when combined with the Deed Poll Certificate (which I can get here instantly for a fiver: http://www.fastdeedpoll.co.uk/home.php) also be OK for ID.
And how about when I change my name back (to the exact same name as before), presumably this won't upset the passport service.

Are there any hidden catches to changing your name that aren't common sense, i.e. that I might not have thought of - I'm happy to inform my banks of the change, and again when I change it back.

And yes, I have got a (very) good reason for wanting to do this, and it's nothing illegal before you wonder!

Not sure about the first bit of your post but My daughter has changed her name 3 times by deed poll ..and all was OK. I dont know if I could be bothered for a few months though - you must have a very good reason!

Just checked with my bank, they don't need to see an updated passport, and it only takes a few days to update my record

useful info I've been considering slightly changing my name as losing lots of post etc and cheques

Contact the dvla, they do charge for the new licence, I got a new one a few years ago I was going to the US so I got the phot id as they ask for it everywhere much easier than carying my passport round with me, I also got a new pasport arround the ame time 1 of them I filled a form in online, they print and post it to you to sign and send it back really easy. But I cant remember if it was the passport or driving licence.

unfortunatly they both cost, ammendments like adding another catagory to a licenc result in a new licence but are done free ;)so you could add HGV / PLG to your licence and ask them to change your name at the same time and it may be done for nothing.

Sounds good, I'm interested . At the moment I was going to use Fast Deed Poll, just because its only a fiver, instantaneous and was the first result on Google hehe.

Are you sure that Fastdeedpoll is above board?

I've just checked the website and there are a lot of grammatical and spelling errors. There is a contact address but no phone number or email address. Might be wholly legal but maybe it would be good to check them out a bit more.

I changed my name by deed poll a couple of years ago and changed back to my original name last March as no one would call me by the name i changed it too...

Deed polls can be done by yourself you just have to have the correct wording such as..

I authorise all persons at all times to address me etc as my adopted name of ... and only as .... at all times etc

You just have to get someone to witness it and put their address.

If you PM me with your email address I will let you know the correct wording and format which you can print off yourself

Although I am not a solicitor I work for one and have had this info certified by our senior partner

You actually only need a statutory declaration as has been posted on many threads on these forums, some only in the last week. I don't have time to look again now, but in the last few days I have posted a link to a website where the statutory declaration and instructions are all there for you to just copy and print off.
