chimney stack removal and party wall

i was in the process of having a wood burning stove installed this week, but the installers discovered that my chimney stack is in a very bad way and could not commence with the work.
a roofer from the company has told me that the stack is dangerous and needs to be removed down to attic floor level, not just to aid installation of the stove but because it is a risk to our safety. re-building is not an option as it is too expensive.
the chimney is on a party wall and our neighbour is a landlord who is happy to have the stack removed just below roof level but doesnt want us to go further down in case it compromises his chimney breast and he doesnt want to remove his side in the attic because of the extra work he would have to do to fireproof his attic space.
i dont know what do do. i want the least expensive option that makes everyone happy but i also want my wood burning stove (which can be installed with a different flue system without the stack) as i have already put a large deposit down on the work.
something has to be done about the stack regardless.

You probably want to speak to a builder, rather than post on a credit card forum.0

Just take it down and home the bloke next door doesn't notice, then swear that you never saw the "alleged" chimney before and he must be either seeing things, or going mad. Burn the chimney on your new stove and then the evidence has also "gone up in smoke" so to say.
Or....you could post this further down in the home improvements forum? (if there is such a thing)
This one's for credit cards and their associated shizzle."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -

Yes. Not nice would have been "What on earth does this have to do with credit cards?"
Have a look through the other forums to see if there is one more suitable.0
