Daughters 8th Birthday Ideas Please!

This year for DD 8 birthday I wanted to do something as simple and cheap as possible for a party.
So the idea has been formed for a "non staying over" slumber party/Girlie afternoon in, kind of american in influence.
My first dilemma is what to put on invites or do I just say to appropriate girls mum's as it really is a casual thing?
I am making the cake myself (Hannah Montana's Guitar), we thought corn dogs and pizza plus some american sweets (this is where the budget will go, looking at the web sites that import them) and Mocktails.
But what else buffet wise?
We thought DVD's on but not sure what to play so suggestions appreciated. We also thought Face packs and nail painting session, to fill out time, but again not sure what else?
All help appreciated as I need to get my finger out as it is only 3 weeks away!

How about calling it a pamper party?
When my daughter was 8, she watched Black Beauty. Tesco have lots of suitable DVDs currently at £3: Flushed Away, Bee movie, Horton hears a who, Monsters v Aliens. Kung Fu Panda 1 is £4/5 and is a great film.
I laid out a 'sweet shop' (candy store!) for them in the kitchen, which had bowls full of different penny sweets. I also borrowed some sweetie tongs from our local sweetshop, who also supplied paper bags. I had made the girls a sweets, drink & popcorn token to cash in before watching the movie.
In terms of food, I'd keep it simple. How about adding fruit skewers to your corn dogs and pizza. Popular in the US, so in keeping with the theme.
Places like Poundland, Wilkinsons & Claires, Superdrug or Tesco will have lovely stuff for the pampering. Don't forget your cucumber slices for their eyes & chill out music to play at the same time. A pair of thick, comfy socks from Primark, and/or homemade cupcake flannels with some sweets would make great party favours.0 -
Ooo thanks for that I hadn't thought on a candy store idea! And I will check out Tescos

I did this last year for my niece's 9th birthday - her 10th birthday is next month so I'm under strict instructions to make this party even better. Here's what I did:
PJ's - I bought some matching PJ's and socks from Primark so they all wore the same for the party. I got packs of two PJ's and they were about £4 each, so £2 for each girl. Socks were something like 2 for £1.50.
wine glasses - I bought some plastic wine glasses from ASDA in pink and bought a load of stick on gems from Poundland and they made their own 'bling' cups. I then gave them some Schloer drink. This went down really really well. The glasses are called wine glasses and are plastic, but they have a small stem, so don't really look like normal glass ones.
Ice-cream factory - I bought the ice-cream that had 3 flavours in in and got chocolates, sweets, cookies and marshmallows and they made their own ice-creams.
face masks - I googled a receipe for a homemade face mask using stuff like cucumber and other stuff I can't remember and they girls made their own face masks in small bowls. Again, this went down really well. My niece wanted to do nail painting but my sister wasn't sure if the parents would have been okay with this, so we left it off.
Food - my sister bought Domino's pizza. This year, I think I might do a cream tea, so tiny sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and posh little cakes.
Entertainment - the girls didn't want much entertainment wise, but we did have Singstars on the Playstation and Just Dance on the Wii, which went down really well.
The party was from 5-7pm, but all of the girls had so much fun, they all wanted to stay, so they didn't leave until 8-9pm. It was great fun and I'm sure your party will be fab too.0
