  • Even the simple stuff like buying them a cbeebies magazine costs a fortune.

I would say some months we spend a bit less than that, and some months a good bit more. One meal out at CP was £70, and we would really like to go back soon. As they get bigger as well, you want to do more with them like cinema, swimming and bowling.

Maybe try and up the budget a little then and see if it helps.

Or try and get some really cheap hobbies. We like the geocaching we do for that, and often take a picnic when we go out for the day to save some pennies.
  • it's hard to talk yourself out of stuff when your friends are all off to disney. It also doesn't help that I can be a bit like ::stamps feet:: IWANT!!. I just had a realisation wich is just stupid but very true. If we chopped the food bill like i am always threatening to do but never really do it meaningfully we could have a break, maybe not disney but a week in say Flamingo land without affecting planned overpayments and still making mega payments. I wonder how much difference that extra say 100 on planned op would make to mortgage free date?

  • It's time though too hon. I can cut the food bill, but it is when I make all my own treats, pastry, pizza dough, bread, and it takes time I don't always have. It's good if you can do it, but it is a challenge. I am hoping i find a bit more time when the kids are in school and i'm home alone.

Approved food helps me too. I'm still eating my way through noodles and couscous, and they have free delivery again till Saturday. I put some details on my thread somewhere.
