washing powder/tablets

Options
Say goodbye to buying expensive washing powders or tablets - I discovered by accident (when I ran out of the expensive stuff) that you can wash your clothes just as well using Tesco's budget washing up liquid in your washing machine which only costs 13p per litre, as long as you also include some budget fabric softener (33p for 2 litres).

Don't use washing up liquid on it's own or you will get squillions of bubbles - but put cheapo fabric softener in with it and it acts as a froth stabiliser. Works just as well - and costs pennies.

New Project Tesco points collecting
  • Even better's Morrison's Bettabuy Automatic Washing Liquid @ £1.69 for 2 litres. In soft water areas for a normal wash that equates to 100ml per wash = 8.5p per wash!

I personally wouldn't risk putting anything other than washing powder/liquid in my machine.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

I put soda crystals in with mine to make it go further, and OH even had loads of dried blood on a pair of light stonewashed jeans (push bike accident) and the soda crystals got that off......we couldn't believe it. You can use them all round the house and they keep your drains and pipes clean too.

Hi, yes thanks for the tip, but it actually does rot the rubber seal on the washing machine door.

  • I've been using washing up liquid in my washing machine for over two years now and there has been no damage whatsoever. Manufacturers will often try to tell you that you need their expensive products but it's not always so...
