Hi
Does anyone have a link to a cheap car insurance thread. I've been B/R for a couple of months, got O/R approval to have a cheap car BUT the annual insurance premium is only £50 less than the value of the car!
Thanks

hi..that will always be the case.....the premium is linked to the perceived risk..rather than what it would cost them to re-imburse the driver.
Heck, with my car, even a full tank of petrol costs more than the car did!
Don't forget, it isn't just your car that gets involved in a claim? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
As alastair says, the value of the car is only a small part of the risk.
Most insurance companies rate all cars worth £20,000 or less as the same.
As regards finding a cheap premium, use one of the comparison sites.
I've had good results from GoCompare, but feel I ought to offer a link to Martin's version:

Thanks for the info. I knew it would be expensive, but going B/R has nearly tripled my premium.
All part of the journey, I suppose...0 -
Being bankrupt should not really affect your premium.:pB&SC No. 298

That may be pure coincidence...premiums have risen sharply recently.....hence the Government's recent initiative concerning 'referral fees'...
All down to our 'sue and be damned' society? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Dojo - according to CitySlicker's info being BR can increase home insurance, so why not car insurance? When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

I don't recall seeing a bankruptcy question on a car insurance proposal, but the question does appear on home insurance proposals.
This suggests underwriters are not interested in the creditworthiness of the proposer when he's driving home, but they are interested as soon as he walks through the door.0 -
Now that's bizarre, especially as one of the perceived risks (as I understand it) is that we might not pay the premium.
Thanks for clarifying though, haven't had a car for a number of years so have forgotten what questions do appear on the proposal, apart from the obvious driving related ones. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

INAN, why would being BR make you more of a risk when driving? And as NA has stated there are no questions about BR on any of the proposal forms, at least not the ones I have filled in, also I have changed insurers twice since being made BR. And as I have already stated I have never had a problem with house insurance either.:pB&SC No. 298

When I got my car insurance quote as I was told there would be a credit search. The premium is double what I was paying for another car a few moths ago, which was of a similar value. Nothing else has changed, so I can only put the huge incresase down to my B/R.0
