Dresses for older bride

Hi everyone

I regularly stalk this forum dreaming about my own wedding, but I do have something to take my mind of it now... my mum's!!

Her first worry is what to wear. She doesn't want a traditional gown, but doesnt want to run the risk of a guest wearing the same thing as her. Does anyone have any experience or ideas for where to shop for outfits for the older bride? She is 60 and so more in the 'mother of the bride' age range.

Thanks:D

    When does she get married?

If you've got long enough you could go high street without the risk of someone else wearing the same, for example my Mu bought her outfit for my wedding from Roman Originals months agp, and we don't get married til next April!

You could also try clearance outlets that have last seasons stock in, again people are less likely to wear it again.

Maybe depending on budget you could try http://www.ragdollofpudsey.co.uk/ragdoll.htm that I just found by googling mother of the bride leeds.

    Good luck!!!

Is she going to go for ivory/white? It would be rare for someone else to wear those colours ot a wedding I think. Maybe you could have something on the invites along the lines of "The bride requests no-one wears ivory"

  • I think it depends on what she feels comfortable it I've seen brides whering suits, dresses in different colours. I don't think there are any hard a fast rules.

It depends what your mum's budget and style is like. LK Bennet do some lovely bits - my mum's looking there for her MoB outfit and she's 60 too. For something a bit more 'traditional', I guess, try Viyella and Laura Ashley. It's definitely also worth looking in John Lewis and House of Fraser too - lots to choose from!

Have you considered having something made for her?? Would solve the problem of anyone wearing the same as her, plus she gets to wear something unique!

Its actually not as pricey as you think and I wish I had know this before I spent £1k on my dress which wasnt 100% what I wanted.

Also as well as Ragdoll in Leeds, what about house of eliot in Hudds? They have a big rang? There's a big suite on the rd from Bramley into Leeds.

  • Look up Elenis Fashions, Dunstable Road Luton. They have some really nice stuff for the older bride.

God, was typing whilst at work! Sorry for the poor spelling! Is your Mum in Leeds too? Is she wanting white bridal dress or nice two piece in something different?

Cinderella's in Skipton where I am getting mine are AMAZING! Mandy and the girls are fantastic - come highly recommended (no appointment needed either) Skipton
I work for a magazine so we advertise quite alot and I read alot of competative media as part of the job! Let me know what sort of thing she is looking for and I'll hopefully be able to give you a hand.

May depend on when you need it for but there's a wonderful dressmaker in Keighley - she's done MoB outfits so am sure she could do something appropriate. Linda's making my dress and I'm 47 and wanted something different from the usual

Ohhh shhhh I'm already over-excited. I've just been up to get all my other stuff together ready...if I haven't calmed down by tomorrow I'll be hanging round chewing my nails as I'll be there miles too early!!
