I don't know who to believe now.

After a long fight claiming my tax refund, see my previous thread, im not sure if my tax codes are right or not , I now don't know who to believe. I have received a reply today from my MP saying that I am not due a refund and owe HMRC money, £300. yesterday I had a cheque in the post for over £3000 from the tax man. Should i risk spending my money or keep it somewhere safe in case it is clawed back.

Maybe it's time to go on TV/into papers to complain and be a case study for the current tax mess, they might offer you tax specialist to actually put the calculations right in exchange for the story.

I would keep it safe for now.

Why would your MP be telling you what your tax situation is?

Speak to HMRC and find out how the £3000 has been calculated.

From your other thread details, I would find this extremely unlikely.

Did it not come with a calculation of how the £3000 came about? If so is it correct?
