Mending linen?

I did something very stupid this morning: while cutting a label out of my new fine linen trousers (half price in a sale :money: ;)) I caught the point of the scissors in the fabric and made a hole.:mad::mad:

The hole's very small and hard to see, but I'm worried it's going to fray and leave me with a much bigger hole. Can anyone think of a way of fixing the result of my clumsiness, or am I just going to have to keep my fingers crossed and hope it doesn't get any worse?

Thanks for your help, peeps. :)

Sounds like something that I would do!

No idea of name, but if you could iron a piece of patching 'stuff' behind the hole it should stop it from fraying....I'm thinking of something that is like Vilene, but don't think that's the name.

I am sure that somebody who really knows what they are talking about will be along soon.....

Are you thinking of wonderwebb Marie? If so it can be got at market stall type haberdashers etc. If you can get a similar colour to the trouser this would sove the problem.

I only now get linen in the sales as it doesn't last as long but I do love it.

I had thought of wonderweb or whatever it's called but I thought it would show - I didn't realise you could get it in different colours. I'll go and hunt for some during my lunchbreak tomorrow - thanks very much indeed, both of you! :)

  • If the hole is tiny and not in an obvious place, you could snip a little piece of fabric from the hem and use it on the back of the hole to patch it - even with wonderweb if yur sewing skills are not up to snuff.

Teeny patch of fabric on back
Slivers of wonderweb around back of the hole
    Hot iron

Be careful and use a cloth though so nothing sticks to your iron.

    Good luck

  • A dab of CLEAR nail varnish will stop it developing any bigger. It shouldn`t wash off easily.

You're wonderful, all of you. :A

I'll try the nail varnish tip first before buying wonderweb just for this, but I know I've got a back-up if the nail varnish doesn't work or if the hole gets worse.

Thank you for saving my nice new trousers! :D
