Hi Beanielou, I don't get DLA, I don't even know what it is! I don't get any benefits, have always earnt below the NIC threshold, and don't get sick pay from my employment as it was/is casual/sessional. I get a big fat ZERO at the moment!

Hi notanothergreyhair, I hadn't thought of going elsewhere for my daughters contact lenses because she has had 3 eye operations and has had the same optician the whole way through. The optician knows her and her eye problems very well so I don't know if getting the lenses elsewhere would be a good idea or not? I think her lenses are a normal type of prescription but she has to have lots of check-ups to make sure her eyes are healthy because of the scarring etc. Maybe its something for me to think of in the future (her most recent surgery was in april so the scarring is still quite fresh)
thanks for the tip though, I'll definately look into it at some point,

Hi jojo, have you put your details in www.entitledto.com to see if it gives you any indication whether there are things you can claim for. Perhaps an appointment with the CAB would be helpful - if you can claim something, it would help.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. Hi hypno06, yeah I saw that link earlier today....the only thing I would possibly be entitled to would be the surestart maternity grant (lol, not a chance!!!!!), but thanks anyway
jojo
p.s. why are you called hypno06? Why you can't get SSP/IB?
DLA, definitely apply, it's nothing to do with what you earn. It's how your disability affects your way of life.
When I had it suggested to me I thought, 1. I don't have a disability and 2. It doesn't affect my life. Sat down with a Welfare Advisor (strongly suggested you get them or a CAB Advisor to fill it in with you) and going through the form I came to realise how much it does affect me.
It's definitely worth applying

Hi Gemmzie, isn't SSP contributions based? I've not paid NI contributions because I have never earned enough. I don't think my mental health problems are severe enough to get something like DLA? I am studying psychology with the Open University and have just had a home exam because of my difficulties, so who knows?
thanks

Hi again Hypno06, I am studying psychology and am fascinated with how the mind can affect us physically (more so because of my own difficulties), I have tried self-hypnosis (Paul McKenna stylee) to try and calm myself when in extreme anxiety states and I am very 'suggestable' and feel that proper hypnosis might help me? I am nervous about how to find a decent hypnotherapist though, I am, however, having CBT at the moment and that seems to be helpful.
(apologies if this post is going off topic)

You wouldn't need to change optician, you can still have the checkups, sight tests etc with the same person; I get my eyes tested at specsavers (next week actually) and then send the prescription to Asda.
That said, I do have to pay for my sight tests and contact lense check-ups on top of buying the lenses. Are you paying a monthly fee to the optician which includes lenses, solution and check-ups? If so then it probably isn't worth buying them elsewhere as the saving made can be erradicated quite quickly as the number of check-ups required increases. Peace of mind can play a part too.*Everybody wants prosthetic foreheads on their real heads*
