It's not so much the amount of money, but the security it gives you, and peace of mind not to have to constantly worry about making ends meet, and keeping a roof over your head. it really does take it out of you, I know.I have no more money to give - all you companies out there - do your worst - I give in!!0
-
It doesn't make you happy but a higher salary is less likely to be correlated with unhappiness is what the poll is saying at the moment.0
-
who ever it is decides what is the 'amount the law says you need to live on', wants shooting.
a state pension with a tiny bit of pension credit?? they probably spend more than this on a corporate lunch, and we have to pay for everything for a week out of it. like to see them try,
but then, most of the 'higher up' mps are very wealthy, even millionaires, in their own right. they havent a clue what its like in the real world.0 -
Money can't buy happiness, but you can be miserable in style!
I have a relatively average salary (to support 4 of us) and my disposable income is practically nil. But I've just bought a house with the love of my life, and his son and grandson are planning to move nearby. I have two beautiful teenage daughters who I wouldn't be without for all the money in the world, and we're all reasonably healthy and happy most of the time.
Compared to July 2010, when I contemplated suicide, I was signed off work with depression, and our small rented house was full of tension and uncertainty, I can't believe the difference in the way I feel when I wake up in the morning!0 -
My wife and I are retired now with small pensions, but sufficient for the things we need. Our house is paid for, we can afford to run a small car, and we have a nice wine meal at home 3 times a week.
Although my wife might see things a little differently ;-) , after a lifetime pursuing a career and never seeming to have time for other interests, I am really happy now to be able to attend to these. I even just enjoy the leisurely pace of getting out of bed in the morning, and then just pottering about the house.
It's the **freedom** that is now making me happy.
If I'd had a private income all my life, enough to provide that freedom, then I would say that having that money would have made me happy. Not because of all the things I could have bought but because of the freedom it gave me.
I now don't have to answer to anyone ('cepting the other half of course!) and can sit around all day and shout at politicians, and other idiots, on the TV and radio if I want to. On the other hand, for example, my wife and I looked out of the window early this morning right after breakfast to see the sun shining, so just on a whim went out for a walk down to the promenade and back. (most refreshing in this wind!)
All we need now is to continue to enjoy good health for our remaining years.... Money? Enough is enough.0 -
Ah, but of course correlation does not imply causation
"Money makes you happy" is much harder to prove than "Earnings are correlated with happiness"...0 -
I'm not voting on this as I'm down as hell at the moment but it has nothing whatsoever to do with money, its being single and lonely as hell. If I had the choice of finding the perfect partner or winning the lottery tomorrow I'd be poor and happy on Thursday morning, if I did win the lottery I'd be a rather miserable rich git :cool:If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
If you do like it please hit the thanks button.0
