Oil for Mayo

Options
I have been making my own mayo the last few weeks and while I have been using Delia Smiths recipie it doesnt taste quite right.

Can anyone on here point me firstly at a good recipe as I cant find it in the indexed thread and secondly recomend a cheaper alternative to olive oil or groundnut oil?

750ml of extra virgin olive oil only £2.49 in Lidl
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Been using it thanks........just wanted a cheaper alternative.
  • I normally use sunflower oil as it has a neutral taste. Olive oil will affect the flavour of the mayo.
Your home is at risk if you do not keep up repayments on a mortgage or other loan secured on it.
  • I must admit I use plain old veg oil as I found olive oil was a little rich , you could try 1/2 and 1/2

I too have found olive oil to be too strong for mayo.

Sunflower oil is best for Mayo.
It is easier to make if you use chilled oil, unless you have a different recipe. Just stick the oil in the fridge for an hour or so first.

:D:D i 3rd the sunflower oil, olive oil does not a good mayo make...far too greasy tasting. i love the flavour of olive oil, but mayo is not the correct vehicle for it.

normal economy vegetable oil is also very good....
