Free Women's self defence/personal safety course

Options
I am posting this in the local section of MSE (as it is open to people who can travel to Manchester) but I have posted it on here too as it is a complete freebie - and I know that more people will probably go on the freebie section (as I do!!) than in the local section..................Anyway......

I teach women's self defence and at the moment am running a ten week (2 1/2 hours each week on a Tuesday evening) course funded by the WEA (an adult learning organisation), this is aimed at women in improving their safety both in a physical and non-physical way.

This course is completely free and women from anywhere in the Manchester area, you do not have to be from a specific location/ postcode at all. As long as you can get there-a Women's centre in the centre of Manchester.

Please also note that any woman, over 16 can attend with limited mobility/ older age group or other restrictions.

This is a fantastic course and I love teaching it, however because there is no big advertising budget for these courses, as I work for a voluntary organisation sometimes the amount of women that may come don't know about it................that's why I am putting this post- on my favourite website!!! Because I know a lot of people come on here, more than we could reach through putting a few posters around!! And after all this is the ultimate money saving!!!! FREE! :j

I really do apologise if I should not have posted this but we want the course to run and need the numbers to be good on the course.

Please PM me if you are interested and I can give you further information.

Thanks xx

Thanks for your interest. Do you know Manchester Royal Infirmary? There is a Women's Centre called the Pankhurst centre across from there. The course is a nine week course, from 6pm-8.30pm on Tuesday evening, it is women only and is a great course and is free!!! Please invite any other women along too who you think might be interested. The emphasis is on physical self defence but also importanlty keeping yourself safe in lots of different situations.

The number for the Pankhurst centre if you want to know more is 0161 2735673

Is there any more details you would like to know? I will of course expand a lot more on the course but if you want to know more just pm me on anything

    Mortgage-free Glee!
it is a shame that the course is only available in manchester, there should be more of this kind of free courses up and down the country, one for safety, two for fitness. in the meantime, women in other areas may just well carry a mini hairspray in their hands wherever they walk on their own, and practice screaming and running at high speed at the same time (try it, not as easy as it sounds) :)

I used to live in Manchester, will pass it on to friends who are still there. I wish there was things like this about for my 10 and 11 year old, now they are starting to go out on their own a little with friends. I hope it goes well for you and it generates more schemes like this!

Hi, I agree these courses should be widespread and fully funded to be inplace everywhere! I'm not sure where you live but there are pockets of teachers running courses in Cornwall/ East Sussex/ Bristol/ North West/ Wolverhampton/ Sheffield/ London. I'm sure there are more but they are the areas I know of. I belong to a small organisation called NWSDA (National Women's Self Defence Association) link is below and if you contact one of the names on there nearest to where you live then they may be able to tell you if there are any in your area at all. Really hope there is one you can do!

That would be great if you could pass the information on to women who live in Manchester thanks. I agree about young girls should be able to do this to, would be great if it was taught in schools!!

I notice you live in Cheshire, not sure if North or South but I recently did a course in Altrincham, is that near to you, I could contact you if I am requested to do one in Cheshire area at all?
