Food Allergies & Antihistimine/Hayfever tablets???

I am trying to lose weight and obviously need to eat fruit. The point being I am allergic to most fruits and some quict severly. Just one bite of a fig swelled my mouth and I reluctant to try new fruits incase the same things happens.
Please can anyone advise on whether it would be safe to take antihistimes daily to enable me to eat fruit - even just for a few weeks so I can try and lose some weight without feeling like I am starving - I would kill for an apple but I can't eat thm and am getting pretty desparate. I have hayfever and whiletaking them found tat I had no reaction to strawberries (which I do eat although the reaction is not as bad as the other friuts)
If I can use them I am looking for the cheapest ones and best ones that are available, I think maybe the one a day might be better but these are for hayfever aren't they and would this make any difference as they are for allergies so wondered if they would work the same. No chemist around here andhave to go into town tomorrow so will check them if no-one can help but wanted to know whether I should take one that is in the cupboard so I can have something to kill my hanger pains without reverting to the biscuit barrel!!

I really wouldn't recommend it. I always have antihistamines on me because I have an egg allergy but whenever I take more than one I do feel really sleepy.
Also, if you repeatedly expose yourself to something that causes such a severe reaction as yours does then you run the risk of having anaphylactic shock, which you really don't want.
How about you talk to your GP and get referred for allergy testing so you know exactly what you can and can't eat.We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Hello blue_monkey
As the symptoms you've described sound like you risk a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) if you eat certain foods/fruit, you should seek medical advice from your GP.
We are not supposed to ask for/give medical advice on this site.;)

Thanks for the advice. yes, I know, I have had these for years now and get more and more as time goes on, I am asthmatic so I do watch what I eat I know I can't eat prawn and avoid most seafoods for example but I can't see how the doctors can test me for every single food going - it is more trial and error. I know when it is coming on and Idon't think it'll ever be too bad to give me an AS but I wondered if anyone had taken Antihistimines for a food allergy. It gets depressing when you can't eat a lot of stuff that they stick on menus and esecially wit it being fruit. I just wanted a means to an end for a few weeks really. Thanks though, I'll go check with a chemist tomorrow and see if they have any more advice. That will be better for now.0
