Lost Endowment

My boyfriend had an endowment mortgage about 15 years ago and he stopped paying the endowment after about 5 years.

Since then he has sold the house and changed bank and doesn't remember who he had the endowment through.

Does anyone have any idea how this can be located?

Your boyfriend needs to locate some paperwork!

Otherwise like finding a needle in a haystack.
  • Hi,

if it was tied to his mortgage, then the lender should know.

Mortgage discharged over 10 years ago so having records to hand is unlikely.

Assuming the endowment was LCE over a traditional mortgage term of 25 yrs - extremely doubtful that premiums ceasing only 5 yrs into the term would have generated a surrender value (SV), especially after the process for making it paid-up, if thats the reason for now locating the original provider.

Further to which, as the policy lost its qualifying status when prems ceased in yr 5 of an assumed 25 yr term, any SV that (by some miracle) is payable may be subject to tax (dependant on LAs level of income).

Anyway that doesn't answer your Q - I can only suggest looking for old bank statements, contacting the bank from whom the prems were paid, and as already stated if the policy was assigned to the mge, contact the mortgagee whom should have a record of the provider on file (if still retained).

    Hope this helps
