Wanting to move house as a mature student with an exisiting mortage

We have an exisitng mortgage and are planning to move. We have never missed any mortgage payments and have a very small mortgage that we will reduce even more when we move. We have a buyer and have found a property we like. We thought we could move our mortgage but because my husband is a mature student we have been told by our provider we can't do it. We would have put the equity from our sale into their bank and it could be used as collateral in addition to some of it reducing our mortgage to £40,000. Our bank has refused. We have never defaulted and have good credit histories. The bank even offered us a £4000 credit card. Is there anything we can do to secure a mortgage?

In order to port you need to satisfy present lending criteria. You need to have enough income to support a £40k mortgage - do you work?0
