Apart from anything else it is a bit sick don't you think feeding bird fat to birds?

Why so? , hawks eat smaller birds, as do jays and no doubt many others

Well, perhaps I should feed some turkey fat to the two rats which seem to have started nesting in my compost heap. Nothing else seems to be capable of killing them off.

What exactly do you mean by toxic?

I googled this and it seems that because turkey (and other poultry too remember) skin is high in fat and therefore difficult to digest for dogs. It can lead to acute pancreatitis which is very dangerous.

    It's only a game

I read somewhere (might have been respb website) that you should not use any dripping fat from cooked meat in case it has tracees of blood in it which can contain bacteria.

Maybe we should just stop eating meat/birds/fish altogether?

That's true, but they are meant to. It always worries me that Mad Cow disease was linked to farmers feeding meat to a vegetarian animal ( meat infected with scrapie). Obviously not all birds are vegetarian, but IMO feeding/eating the same basic animal is risky. I just think it is a bit sick, although carrion birds and birds of prey do eat other birds.
  • I have been watching the poor birds in the garden, and thinking that I really must get round to buying some bird seed and making my own cakes.
The question is where is the cheapest place to buy bird seed? I checked one of the supermarkets yesterday but they had sold out. The shop I use to use has moved out of town.
