Wedding dress dilemma

Hi,

I am getting married next year and have found a beautiful wedding dress by Maggie Sottero, the only problem is it is £1450 which is WAY more than I am willing to pay.
I'm just wondering if there are any factory outlet or budget stores anywhere where I may be able to pick up the dress at a much more reasonable price. I live in the north east but am willing to travel a little if it is going to be worthwhile.
I have seen discussions about people buying dresses online from the US for a lot cheaper, I'm just scared about buying without having actually seen the dress first!
Any ideas??

Jill

  • What is the name of the dress, and what size do you need? You may find if you put this post along with the name and size on the wedding board someone may be able to find it for you. Oh and would you consider 2nd hand?
  • have you joined any wedding forums? When I was getting married 6yrs ago, it was quite common on the forums for BTB to post in the "wanted" section for particular dresses. (I am not sure if i am allowed to post other forums on here but it rhymes with witched) Also i would often see wedding dress clearance sales advertised.

Otherwise you could possibly have a local dressmaker make you something similar for much less. I wish I had done that rather than give the snooty women in the dress shop my money...but thats another story (was bit of a "Pretty Women" shopping experience)
  • probably too far for you, but there is a 2nd hand designer wedding dress agency in weybridge - I think that you can register your interest in a particular style and if they receive one, they contact you. i think this is it http://www.designerweddingdressexchange.co.uk/index.htm
  • phone round all the shops that stock maggie near as you can travel to, you will be surprised how the prices differ, i got mine £300 less than top price, my friend got £400 less. x
  • Thanks for the advice guys! The dress is called Primavera (I don't know why they have named it after a pasta dish haha it certainly doesn't do the dress justice!!) I would consider second hand... I'd prefer not to though, I know its silly but I'd feel like the dress wasn't my own...

I haven't posted on any wedding forums but will give it a go now. I'm going to start calling around all stockists too and see how much the prices vary.

    Thanks again!
