Temporary > Permenant employment

I was wondering if anyone could offer advise.
I am temporarily employed by my local health trust, nhs, in northern ireland.
Initially I was employed on a one month contract, which was then extended at intervals ( ie for 6 more months, 3 months, one monthetc).
I have been employed temporarily for 2.5 years on an ongoing basis.

Someone had mentioned, that there may be legislation that after 2 years of temporary employment my employer has to offer a permenant role or similar.

Is this correct?
Should I post this on N I board as legislation in NI may be different to rest of UK

The relevant period is four years, which applies throughout the UK.

In addition, you are not automatically entitled to a permanent role after four years. The employer has to seriously consider it, but if they have good business grounds on which the job can remain fixed-term, they can do so.

Be aware, too, that if you have more than a year's continuous service, then you have the same rights to unfair dismissal and other employment protection. So being on an FTC isn't as disvantageous as some would think.

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
